Quintons Commercial Celebrates 25 Years in Business

11.12.2014

Simon Quinton Smith entered the Chartered Surveying profession in 1979 and worked in London as a commercial property agent. He covered all aspects of commercial property to include property valuations and the acquisitions, disposal and lettings of offices and industrial units.

In 1986 he moved out of London to join Chancellors based in Reading. Here he worked with senior partner Tony Edwards who was one of only two specialist garden centre and horticultural valuers in the United Kingdom. Simon immediately became interested in this niche market and enjoyed dealing with businesses and property rather than just property. He asked Tony to teach him how to value them to enable him to acquire and dispose of them for their clients. When Chancellors sold out to Hogg Robinson Simon moved to Camberley to work for Carson & Company and much of the garden centre work followed him.

Like many other Chartered Surveying companies in the late eighties, Carson & Company were also sold to a major corporate and this event prompted Simon to start his own business.

When the Newbury practice was opened Simon continued to work within the Garden Centre and Horticultural industries but also established himself as a Newbury property agent.

Shane Prater joined the business in 1998 as a graduate and qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 2000 He was appointed a Director in 2002 and now runs the Newbury Commercial division. Over the past 16 years Shane has grown the business to become one of the leading commercial property agents in the area.

Quintons deal with all aspects of commercial property within West Berkshire and nationally for specific clients. They are RICS registered valuers and provide advice on sales, lettings, valuation, rent reviews, lease renewals of offices, shops, industrial/warehouse units and sites plus commercial and residential land. They also provide Energy Performance Certificates for non-domestic and domestic properties.

Shane said “Our unwavering commitment to providing clients with a first class personal service remains ongoing as we celebrate our 25 year business milestone. Quintons is firmly established as a reputable independent firm of commercial Chartered Surveyors”.

Founder Simon Quinton Smith focuses on the niche company Quinton Edwards and is involved in many of the UK’s garden centre and horticultural nursery transactions and spends most of his time travelling the country undertaking valuations and providing business consultancy to the industry.

Quintons Commercial employ eight members of staff and one of them, Mandy Prince, has worked for Quintons for 25 years. She was working at Chancellors when Simon joined them in 1986; she moved with him to Carson and Company and then joined Quintons when its doors opened in 1989. Apart from a brief break for maternity leave, Mandy has been an integral member of the team and today provides secretarial and administrative support to Shane and the commercial department.

To mark this major milestone Quintons held a party on Wednesday December 10th at The Newbury in Bartholomew Street where 150 guests attended to celebrate with them.

Shane and Simon have appreciated the many congratulatory messages received from their clients locally and around the country and they look forward to continuing in their respective areas of expertise and to delivering an excellent service to their clients.
